spedangie > An old stone bridge on a county road not far from my home.
spedangie > Well it WAS a bridge once! This is what remains of a small limestone bridge on a long abandoned road.
spedangie > This bridge was built during the Great Depression as a WPA project. My grandfather was the County Engineer who oversaw it's construction.
spedangie > This structure is locally known as "The sunken bridge". When Milford Lake was constructed the road of which this bridge was a part had to be relocated since it was now covered by a cove of the lake. The bridge was simply left in place after one portion was collapsed. It's popular today as a fishing pier.
spedangie > This was taken with a disposable camera during a white water rafting trip on the Rio Grande River in New Mexico. The bridge is for pedestrian traffic going to a small group of homes. The water was pretty high that year and we really had to duck as we passed under it.
spedangie > This bridge crosses the Rio Grande River in New Mexico.
spedangie > This bridge is in the rural area where I grew up. It was originally a railroad bridge and was left in place after the rails were removed. It slumbered quietly for a number of years until a flood on the creek washed away the bridge that allowed cars and trucks to cross. Rather than try to replace that bridge the old railway bridge was converted to car/truck use. It can only be used by one vehicle at a time, but it hasn't proved to be a problem for this close knit rural area.
